Job Description:

Dell's “Big Data Group” is looking for a big data architect to lead the software design and architecture of high-quality and complex systems in new and innovative ways to deliver an end to end ecosystem with ability to proactively identify potential system failures in Dell's client, server, storage, and networking products. Someone who has lead architecture of projects and products of significant size and complexity related to data storage, acquisition, transformation and analytics of customer diagnostic information and their service/dispatch history using newer big data concepts and traditional data mart concepts. Data feeds will include streams from Dell data warehouse, IT systems, customer collections and other systems of records. An innovator who can develop architecture and design for future scale and executes on proof of concepts to aid in choosing future technologies and is capable of working on new or existing software of significant complexity involving multiple teams. This person will work with product management team to define requirements, develops technical specifications and designs to assure product integration into overall ecosystem; aids test and performance teams for performance and scalability assurance and create technical architecture documentation during incubation phase that can aid product management teams and development teams to execute on the innovation.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Designs and develops major functional or performance enhancements for existing products, or produces new software products or tools.
  • Drives idea generation for new software products, or for the next version of an existing product.
  • Protects Intellectual property by working appropriate legal elements (ex: procurement, patents, and open source) and filing of invention disclosures
  • Provides accurate resource, schedule and cost sizing for software development and responsible for the delivery of products within budget, schedule and quality guidelines
  • Working cross-functionally to align requirements within organization for software partners, solutions and products and influencing upper management and Executive teams
  • Able to code and effectively guide others to code flexible and scalable programs that meet complex requirements. Able to constructively coach less-senior engineers
  • Experience with, and able to provide leadership in all phases of software development: feasibility, design, implementation, integration, test and delivery
  • In-depth knowledge of test strategies for a variety of software products

Requirements
 
  • 7+ years of data warehouse experience. 2+ years in handling Big data implementations and experience in leading successful enterprise data warehousing efforts
  • Strong technical skills in all data warehousing technologies (e.g., ETL, ODS, DBMS, BI) with strong hands on working knowledge on Hadoop ecosystem, preferably Hortonworks
  • Advanced knowledge of programming languages; operating systems; firmware; BIOS; device drivers; databases; system, network, operating system, and application administration; embedded software/firmware; tools and utilities. E.g. Java, J2EE, Microsoft .NET, Windows API, SQL Server 2005/2008/2012, GUI frameworks. Up-to-date knowledge of the data warehouse market; vendors, and standards bodies
  • High expertise on DB, data acquisition and ETL
  • Big data concepts - Hadoop, MapReduce, R, Hive, HBase, Scoop
  • Informatica, SQL Server, Oracle
  • Significant subject matter expertize on client, server, storage and network technologies and information related to troubleshooting complex storage and networking issues. Preferably Dell products
  • Equallogic, Compellent, PowerConnect, PowerEdge, Force10, Cisco, Brocade, etc.
  • Storage and Network protocols: iSCSI, DAS, SAN, NAS, FC, TCP/IP, SNMP, CIM
  • Application development and deployment experience on Windows, Linux, and Virtualized environments
